The Common Hour aims to provide an occasion for faculty, students, and staff to absent themselves from daily concerns, gather in common spaces, and engage in the ideas of speakers and the presentations of artists, and with each other in discussion of shared interests and concerns.
Common Hour
A meditation space, recording studio and vehicle for the mysterious, aural broadcast of the peoples' mantras, parked at the intersection of imagination, evangelism, and propaganda. Peddling a homeopathic remedy for the mass media slogans of the day, the Mantra Trailer focuses attention on the personal and spiritual mantras people live by, one neighborhood and voice at a time. Is there a repeating phrase running through your head? Get it out and share it with the world. Record your mantra today!
The Mantra Trailer
This podcast both examines and inspires a certain approach towards life that is based both on personal philosophies and on, more importantly, the writings of people such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. This is a biweekly five to ten minute series referencing literature, life, and nature. The host, while working in technology for a major corporation, holds a Master's in English Literature and is a true Romantic.

Los Alamos, New Mexico is a small mountain community of approximately 18,000 people one hour from Santa Fe. The church is part of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Mountain Desert district. Our congregation is midsize, with about 150 active members and about 100 friends. We have an active Religious Exploration (RE) program with 50-60 children enrolled in classes from toddlers to High School. Our church year typically starts in the middle of August and goes into the first week of June with regular services at 9 and 11 am. We also offer an Adult Religious Exploration Forum at 10:10 am. During the summer, we invite many outside speakers to explore a whole range of topics of general interest to the public.
We are a UUA-certified Welcoming Congregation and spearheaded the formation of and are now actively supporting the local chapter of PFLAG. Our vision is to affirm and exemplify our Principles and Purposes as we welcome and include all people of liberal faith, promote justice, encourage religious thought and experience in the best traditions of our heritage, and serve as an active testimony to the future.
